What I Do To Stay In Shape Year Round

Food

Tracking calories can be tedious and occasionally time-consuming, but it is essential for managing goals effectively. A calorie represents a unit of energy. When you consume more energy than you expend, the excess is stored in your body, primarily as fat. This condition is known as a calorie surplus. Conversely, if you burn more energy than you take in, you will lose weight as your body begins to utilize its energy reserves, mainly fat stores. Consuming an amount of energy that matches your body’s needs will help you maintain your current weight.

While eating cleaner, more nutrient-dense foods is beneficial for overall health and body composition, weight loss fundamentally relies on being in a calorie deficit. Technically, it is possible to lose weight with any type of food, provided you are consuming fewer calories than you burn.

I have incorporated calorie tracking into my routine for years now, and it has proven to be an effective method. As many people have experienced, this approach works.

Workout

Working out doesn't have to be a grueling routine that you dread each day. It should be enjoyable and fulfilling. Personally, I find great satisfaction in weight lifting, particularly through bodybuilding workouts that emphasize mind-muscle connection, progressive overload, and achieving intense muscle pumps. However, I understand that this approach may not appeal to everyone.

The key to long-term success is finding a routine that you enjoy and can consistently adhere to. There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to fitness. I have discovered what I love and have committed to it, typically working out 5 times a week. The best routine is one that fits your personal preferences and keeps you motivated.

Lifestyle

Find activities that you genuinely enjoy and continue incorporating them into your routine. For instance, I discovered that pickleball provided an enjoyable way for me to get cardio. When combined with my weight lifting regimen, I achieved a well-rounded approach that not only helps me maintain and build muscle but also benefits my respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

You don't need to drastically eliminate all your favorite foods or spend hours in the gym each day. Instead, focus on making simple, healthy habit and lifestyle changes. Consistency and a bit of dedication can make a significant difference in your fitness journey.
